ABOUT THE ART
Painted using soft pastels, Merren loves using striking landscapes that are truly unique to the Australia outback; the sunsets, sunrises, storms and big blue skies. Her pieces are bright and attention grabbing.
The home page painting, Natures Ferocity, won "The People's Choice Award" at the Outback Archie's in 2018.
"This particular painting is of a memory from my childhood where my dad was out fighting bush fires all night with every other farmer and rural bush fire brigade member. Massive storms were hitting the district, starting many fires. I remember just looking out into the night and seeing the smoke and glow from the fires not that far from our farm. I was only very young, maybe 4 or 5 years old, and remember the fear I felt that night. Thankfully no lives or homes were lost, but there were some close calls."

Not knowing what to do with myself, I have never found a qualification that tickled my fancy. From a farming background myself, I ended up moving to Bourke NSW in 2007 for my own farmer, Tim. Going on to have our two daughters, I still struggled to find my direction and contribution.
I have always loved the outback colours and contrast, not only in its vibrancy, but the feast and famine seasons we endure year in, year out.
I had been asking our local pastel artist, the amazing Jenny Greentree, to do some lessons, eventually in 2017 she found the time. I was so excited and amazed by what I was capable of that I decided to try my hand more seriously at pastel painting. So here I am... living the dream and doing what I love.
